Video Transcribed: Okay, so we’ve talked about what a warrant is. We talked about what an arrest warrant is. Now, what’s a search warrant? Hello, I’m Ty Smith, an OKC attorney with Wirth Law, and a search warrant, as the name might suggest, is a judicial authorization to search for evidence of criminality at a given location or place, a car also. Cars count search warrants, but most of them it’s houses and locations.
So a search warrant can only be achieved when a cop brings to a judge sufficient evidence that evidence of criminality is going to be found at this location. It has to be specifically lined out in the warrant what area is going to be searched. Okay? And we’re going to do a follow-up video on what to do when the police show up at your house and want to search.
A little spoiler for that one. If they come up to your house with a search warrant, let them search. Okay? Let them search for evidence of criminality, okay? It’s not worth going to jail over. If they’ve got a warrant, you need to let them go because they’ve received judicial authorization to look for something.
Now we will follow up with, as I said, what’s due when they have a warrant or when they want to come to the house, but we’ll cover that later, okay? That is essentially what a search warrant is. Some of you may have found this very rudimentary and simple if you watch Law And Order or something like that, but keep in mind, not everyone watches those things, and not everyone’s into those things. So it’s still important that we cover the basics. That’s what a search warrant is.
