Here Is Some Recent Good News for You

Do you have an outstanding warrant? Maybe one that’s a couple of years old, and for a Class A offense, such as speeding, or maybe fooling around with a laser pointer. If so, we got good news for you. Hello, I’m Ty Smith, an Oklahoma attorney with Wirth Law.
The Oklahoma City Council just voted to extend a program that would allow for a reduction in the base fine for simple Class A offenses like speeding, and parking tickets. I had to research a lot of these to make this video, and actually, some of them were kind of funny, like misuse of a laser pointer: Class A offense. A really fun one was the possession of an exotic animal that the city deemed to be a nuisance or a danger to the public. So let’s say you have a tiger in your backyard. Two years ago, specifically, I had this tiger before June 30th, 2020: that’s important.
I’ve since been cited for having that tiger. I received it on January 30th, 2020, okay? That’s when I received my citation, and I’ve since gotten rid of that tiger, but I haven’t paid that old ticket, okay? What you can now do if you are in possession of a warrant… Because you probably have a warrant out for your arrest, now it’s a couple of years old, for that unpaid ticket.
What you can now do, is you can call the Oklahoma City Municipal Court, at (405) 297-3898, and request a reduction in that. Or even after you request a reduction, it’s still too much: you can request a hearing to speak to a judge, and many judges will either reduce the fine even more, they’ll throw out your charges entirely, or sit you on a payment plan. Judges, they really don’t want to put you in jail, they just want money, okay.
If this sounds like you, we encourage you to call up there, because there’s been a promise that: you show up, that’s part of what the city council has really tried to stress, you’re not going to jail, you’re not going to prison, you’re not going to be arrested for these things.
They just want people to either pay it or get them off the books, okay. Because there’s apparently quite a backlog of tickets and warrants out for it.
So, if you have the issues or you have further questions, you can feel free to contact me, an OKC criminal defense lawyer. Once more, I’m Ty Smith. I’m at theoklahomacityattorney.com. Love to talk to you about this stuff, and I look forward to hearing from you.
