Essential Insights for Adult Guardianships
Hello, I’m Oklahoma City guardianship attorney Dillan Savage of Wirth Law Office – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and the surrounding area. Today, we are going to discuss whether or not you can get a guardianship of an individual over 18 years or older and what reasons you might need to have in order to get a guardianship of those individuals.
Right off the bat, I can tell you yes, you can, in fact, get a guardianship of individuals of 18 years or older. You’re going to have to look at a few different factors. Those factors will include whether or not the individual has a mental illness, a physical illness, or another such disability that makes it where they cannot take care of themselves.
Criteria for Guardianship
You can also look at just generally if that person has some other reason causing them to not be able to take care of themselves. At that point, you can petition the court for guardianship of those individuals so you can make the decisions for them financially and otherwise and take care of them and look out for their best interest.
