Get the Protection You Deserve
Video Transcript: Hello, everybody. This is Dustin Peterson and I am a lawyer in Oklahoma. Continuing my segment here on family law and divorce topics, I want to talk a little bit today about the victim’s protective order.
Oftentimes, when we have a divorce, we will deal with issues of domestic violence, unfortunately. If this has happened to you, do you know that there is a way to protect yourself through the victim’s protective order?
If you are the victim of domestic abuse, stalking, harassment, rape, or any other crime committed by someone in your family, a household member, even someone that you’ve been in a dating relationship with, you can seek these things through a protective order. You can also seek a protective order from someone outside your family or household member, a dating relationship, so long as you have a police report.
It is possible to get a same day hearing on these. If the judge grants it, an emergency temporary ex parte order can be issued and it will seek to protect you from the violence and from the person who’s committed that violence against you.
If you have any other questions about the victim’s protective order, either in or outside of a divorce, do give me, an Oklahoma City protective order attorney, a call at (405) 888-5400 or go to theoklahomacityattorney.com.
